Dear Julie,

Normally at this point in a letter, we (meaning a junior editor) would be thanking you for you submission. Unfortunately, the junior editor assigned to read your novel has taken a rather unexpected leave of absence. You will be gratified to know that she is resting comfortably and is responding well to medication and therapy sessions.

Your manuscript has been confiscated by the Government United States for use in some sort of Top Secret Weapons research. Not that anyone else would have dared to handle it after what it did to that poor young woman.

You should expect a visit from some official agency soon. In the meantime, please DO NOT attempt any rewrites, revisions or even printing and mailing of additional copies of your manuscript Two Moons Over Cleveland to any other agency or publishing house, as the consequences could prove fatal to someone of less mental fortitude than our dear Ms. Tuttweiler.

If you have already submitted your manuscript elsewhere, please notify your local authorities as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Willie Sellya
